These are my favorite websites for the best last minute adventure travel opportunities.
LastMinuteTravel.com has a Top 20 Deals feature, and most of their deals are packages. Choose a destination first, then select air and hotel. www.lastminutetravel.com
Travelzoo.com is another site with a “Last Minute Specials”. The “Last Minute Travel” link lets you look for deals to or from a particular city. There’s a section for sports and adventure bargains, which include skiing in Colorado, an African wildlife safari and scuba diving in Costa Rica. And, you can also sign up for an e-letter of deals from major US airports, including Boston, Chicago, Miami and New York. www.travelzoo.com.
Site59.com offers packages that can be purchased as last minute as the same day. This site is owned by Travelocity. Think of it as bargain basement shopping at a “brand name” store. www.site59.com.
Go-Today.com is another site for those who want to leave after breakfast tomorrow. There’s a list of “Top Ten Vacation Deals”, or you can search by destination and by the type of trip you want, including biking and something called “scenic break”.
SideStep.com is a site that searches other sites for deals, and includes rental cars as well as airfare. www.sidestep.com.
Another site that searches others for airfare bargains is www.travelfleamarket.com. And be sure to check www.airfarewatchdog.com. Even though its name is AirfareWatchdog.com, this website has links to last minute deals that include hotels, even rental cars, plus a section of unadvertised airfare super-bargains.
There also are several websites that are specifically for cruises.
For deals to the Caribbean, check out www.cheapcaribbean.com. For last minute cruise possibilities to other parts of the globe, check out www.cruisedirect.com.
And for hotels only, the website to go to is www.quickbook.com.
Of course, you know to read the fine print before you book anything, whether it is far in advance or last minute. Because of the super-low prices, some websites do not allow changes, others charge a premium, still others will make you re-book and issue a credit for the original.
Ready, set, go travel!
